Sen. Ted Stevens is trying to pull a fast one, and get a cloture vote on net neutrality before Congress is scheduled to recess this week. Hes been buttonholing three Senators in particular to gain their cloture vote:

Please call and/or FAX these Senators and let them know how important it is that they vote against cloture because voting with Stevens means voting with the corporate shills who want to charge you extra to exercise your right to free speech on the internet. Stevens is shooting for a cloture vote on Thursday and has plans to keep everyone in a lame duck session to force a vote on net neutrality after Congress is supposed to be in recess.

Yesterday, the Senate voted on three critical bioethics bills: Santorum-Brownback: Fetus Farming Prohibition Act of 2006 (S. 3504), Alternative Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapies Enhancement Act (S. 2754), and Taxpayer Funding of Embryonic Stem Cell Research on "spare" IVF embryos.

All three passed through the Senate. The first two bills passed 100-0.

The third, Human Embryo Experimentation bill (H.R.810) passed 63-37. While it is a big disappointment that this legislation passed, it is not a veto-proof margin, and indeed a better vote than many expected.

We expect the President to make good on his promise to veto this bill today. And we are asking team members to contact the White House today and offer encouragement to the President to use his veto pen on H.R. 810.

Following the Senate votes, the House took up both the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act of 2006 (S. 3504), and Alternative Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapies Enhancement Act (S. 2754) under suspension of the rules.

They passed the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act, meaning it too will be heading to the President’s desk to be signed today!

The Alternative Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapies Enhancement Act (S. 2754), however did not pass. Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) and Diana DeGette (D-CO) fought against the bill and successfully brought it down by a vote of 273-154 claiming that the bill would distract from embryonic stem cell research.

Toma, even though HR 810 did not go as hoped, there is much to cheer about on the bioethics debate. Grassroots support was very strong yesterday, as many Senate offices were inundated with Pro-Life phone calls. Even Sen. Sam Brownback praised your efforts!

In all, we scored a huge victory with the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act of 2006 (S. 3504), and we do expect the President to veto HR 810.

There is a group of industrious corporate-types and money-hungry medical research facilities in the world who, for whatever weird-to-dark reason, want to call these tiny people "tissue" and then sell their "goods" on the open market! "Blastocysts" are PEOPLE. And they have rights, too!

This Monday and Tuesday, July 17t and 18th, 2006, our Senate is going to discuss the outcome for these little ones. Many of these scientists and elected officials have been paid off by huge pharmeceutical companies to toss reasonable ethics regarding the "proper path" for genetic research.

But not if I can help it. Not if YOU can help it!

Scientifically speaking, "stem cell research" is awesome! I love it! Just DON'T CHOP UP MY BROTHER OR SISTER IN THE PROCESS!!! Ok?

It has become increasingly clear to us that, in the place of fetal tissue, we can use non-differentiated, "pluripotent" cells derived from placental tissue and umbilical cord blood. The medical community has unanimously declared these to be potent vehicles during these beginning phases of stem cell research, whereas fetal-farmed cells DO NOT offer similar potential until very advanced stages of body's formation. (I said that. I just put it in block quotes so skeptics would read it.)

4. The Islamic world has used an oil embargo against the West in order to punish it for standing with Israel. Pray that God would give Western leaders holy courage and divine strategies on how to deal with oil warfare.

5. Protection for Israeli soldiers involved in the battle, and especially for those Messianic Jewish believers who are presently involved in the fighting. Also pray for protection for Israeli civilians from rocket attacks.

Now we're saying this - men and women are meant to be together. In fact, we care enough about the phenomenon that we've signed the petition at grassfire.org to say I support "clarification" in our Constitution towards that truth. Simply put - without a mandate for procreation, the human race will cease to exist.

So! Around the world, feminists have been staying home. Why? Because CHILDREN ARE AWESOME! That's why! And, although the feminist movement has, for the most part, encouraged women to eschew the idea of having children... much less staying home to care for them... there are some who just can't get enough of the little tykes!

The Yahoo videoblogging boards have been accosted by a pornographic golpher! Now that I have your attention, see especially an aggregation of the discussion (brought to you by the We Are The Media team) which was sparked by one very passionate warrior for women's rights, KillerB. I include some of her (warranted) rant in this post as well as Ryanne's echoes of more angst towards these corporate type holdovers from the old school of network broadcasting television who are trying to grab content from and exploit the lives of many independent (mostly female?) videobloggers worldwide.

I've been really passionate about women's rights for over 20 years now, so I'm weighing in from the perspective of a believer in Yeshua (Jesus), King of the Universe from Israel. The women's rights movement was started here in the USA by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and her peers - all devout Christians. In fact, everywhere true believers in the teachings of Yeshua have been throughout history human rights have been exalted and oppression cast down.

I just pray that this movement of videoblogging can stay FREE of corporate greed and perversion. Throughout history, the exploitation of women has marked the end of all the regimes of men - this present world order notwithstanding (Revelation 18:3).

It will feature drum and bass music and other body-moving music. It will give as much background and "skate reporting" as possible... and when it's time to feature skaters it will cram in as many shreddifying moves as a 5-10 minute podcast can handle!

Vlog 56 features a cover of Prince's "The Cross." The Cross is easy to sing about if you consider the brilliant HIDDEN wisdom in it!

Following is the ancient Hebrew text (in modern paraphrase) which fortold the story of the One who endured the Cross. Imagine - for you who don't know Him yet - if this Universe truly is built by an intelligent omniscient being... and if He really did absorb and absolve the evil of humanity upon himself as he was being TORTURED as a prisoner of conscience... it's unfathomable! 1 Who believes what we've heard and seen?

Who would have thought GOD's saving power would look like this?

2 The servant grew up before God--a scrawny seedling,

a scrubby plant in a parched field.

There was nothing attractive about him,

nothing to cause us to take a second look.

3 He was looked down on and passed over,

a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.

One look at him and people turned away.

We looked down on him, thought he was scum.

4 But the fact is, it was our pains he carried--

our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
